BAFTA win for Doctor Who

The Stage report that Doctor Who won for Best Drama Series.

Russell T Davies was also given the Dennis Potter award - presented to individuals for outstanding writing in television. Alumni include Alan Plater and Lynda La Plante.

Bafta Awards Sweep

Doctor Who swept the board with six gongs:

One of them, the Sian Phillips Award for outstanding contribution, went to Swansea writer Russell T Davies for making BBC One Wales' Time Lord rebirth a major success on national TV.

Doctor Who and The Curse of the Deadly Choir

Big Bafta Battle:

A TRAVELLING Time Lord will go head to head with a male voice choir for this year's Bafta Cymru awards. Both Doctor Who and Con Passionate head the nominations for tonight's awards ceremony with more than 10 nominations each.

Speaking out during a podcast for a national newspaper, he said "You watch a Charles Dickens adaptation and you’re clapping [at] all those antique lace collars but if you watch a bird woman from the 57th century you don’t imagine that someone put two weeks’ thought and work into it."

Welsh BAFTA Noms

Doctor Who has claimed a number of Welsh BAFTAs too:

DOCTOR WHO is leading the nominations at this year's Bafta Cymru Awards after being shortlisted in 14 categories. And former Time Lord Christopher Eccleston is in line for the Best Actor prize, even though he has now been replaced by David Tennant as the Doctor.
