Lost Episodes being Recreated

Wow. Just wow.

Cosgrove Hall has been working with the BBC’s interactive drama and entertainment department to recreate the two episodes, for which only soundtracks survived. They used black and white animation based on original actors and set designs.

"Inside the Tardis"

Cardiff Entoured with Doctor's Popularity

Boom goes the tourism:

Almost 700,000 tourists stayed in the city's hotels and guesthouses during 2005, while an estimated 500,000 visited the area and stayed with relatives - bringing a record-breaking £505m to the local economy. And for the first time since research was carried out in 1998 day visitors topped 10 million - up seven per cent.

Warner Home Video and BBCAmerica will bring out the next two Doctor Who releases from the original series on September 5th. Both are earlier efforts, from the 1st and 3rd incarnations of The Doctor.

Tourism in Wales: Going Up

The new series is bringing tourists to Wales:

An exhibition dedicated to the Time Lord at Cardiff's Red Dragon Centre has attracted more than 100,000 visitors since Christmas, and hundreds are expected to attend a Doctor Who convention in Swansea later this year. Following the first series, a poll found that 18 per cent of visitors to Cardiff had decided to come after seeing the city on television.

Eight Millions

Today we get a double-whammy: both the BBC website and CBBC news are crowing about having beat Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets:

Ratings for the sci-fi drama peaked at the end of show, with 8.3 million tuned in to see Tennant as the Time Lord and Billie Piper as his assistant Rose.

Returning to its educational roots

Over at The Citizen, they talk about the Doctor Who Museum:

Colin Baker, who was the sixth Doctor appearing from 1984 to 1986 will be at the museum from 10am until 4pm. It's a great opportunity to meet the actor who brought his own inimitable style to the character that has fascinated children and adults for more than 40 years.

Official Series Two Launch

Today is the official launch date for Series Two:

A three-minute reel of clips showcased the rest of the series - "The highlights included squid-like aliens The Ood, shiny, unison-marching Cybermen, huge airships hovering above London, an astonishing CGI werewolf and Rose and returning classic series companion Sarah-Jane Smith engaged in an amusingly bitchy stand-off".

Mini-episodes to be released

In a clever fit of marketing, the BBC will be releasing one-minute episodes for your mobile phone or PDA.

Pocket-lint: Created by the team behind Attack of the Graske, the highly successful Christmas interactive mission, the mini-episodes will have the same high quality elements as the main show.

PC Pro: The 13 mini-episodes will include footage that won't be seen on TV, and back story about the characters and adventures coming up in the next episode, such as the Cat Women who can cure all illnesses and Cybermen being upgraded.

American Audience Warming Up?

Over on the Now Playing site, they're talking about whether the new series will grab a bigger American audience this time round:

“Securing a TV platform for Doctor Who [in America] is great news as the exposure from the TV broadcast, combined with joint BBC Video/Sci Fi marketing initiatives, will ensure maximum exposure for both the TV broadcast and the DVD release,” says Burton Cromer of BBC Worldwide Americas.

SFX Special

Brand Republic are reporting that SFX Magazine is publishing a special Doctor Who issue:

The quarterly edition of SFX Collection will contain a behind-the-scenes look at the series, an interview with science-fiction author Neil Gaiman, and a covermounted book from the BBC's range of official 'Doctor Who' novels.
