Sarah Jane to be given more meaty role

And, no, no double entendre intended:

Sladen, who played Sarah Jane Smith alongside Doctors Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker from 1973 to 1976, is returning to the BBC1 show on April 29. But she said: "Sarah Jane used to be a bit of a cardboard cut-out."

Series 2 Preview

From TV Squad:

Previews for the new series of Doctor Who have started appearing on BBC ONE in the U.K., mixing footage from the interactive television special Attack of the Graske with segments from the forthcoming series.

A Belated Look at Series 1

Doctor Who has hit the pop culture mainstream with this overview at PopMatters:

The relationship between Rose (Billie Piper), the Doctor's assistant, and her mother (Camille Coduri) exemplifies the series' new direction. With Rose suffering from youthful anomie and her mum floating about in a post-boomer haze, they took turns parenting each other. Rose's relationship with the Doctor is fully platonic, give or take a handholding or two.

Interactive Experiences

Some online games will be arriving soon at the BBC website:

James Goss, editor of the BBC Doctor Who website said, "As soon as Doctor Who ends on TV, the adventure continues online, only suddenly you're helping your heroes, defending the earth, locating alien artefacts, or saving history. It's the next best thing to travelling in the TARDIS yourself."

Spoiler-ific Preview

At the Sci Fi Wire, they take a look at the upcoming second series:

Russell T. Davies, executive producer of the BBC's hit SF series Doctor Who, told SCI FI Wire that the upcoming second season—debuting in the United Kingdom on BBC1 starting April 15—builds on the strengths of season one (currently airing on SCI FI Channel Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT) .

Elisabeth Sladen can't stay away

Who's back? She is:

The actress gave tantalising hints about an episode of the new series this month - starring David Tennant as the Doctor and Billie Piper as his assistant - in which she appears along with another Dr Who favourite of yesteryear, the robot dog K9.

CGI Getting Even Better, and Scarier

Apparently, the latest werewolves are getting a bit too scary:

Fans of Doctor Who, which returns next Saturday, are used to being scared by the likes of the Daleks, Sea Devils and the Zygons. But the realistic nature of the CGI werewolf, the main monster in the episode Tooth and Claw, could rival a Hollywood horror movie.

Canada's CBC Consider Co-production

The CBC are co-producing the Doctor Who spinoff, Torchwood

The network previously partnered with the BBC for the first two series of the revived sci-fi drama and is planning to air the second this Autumn.

Tennant gets to use his own accent

The Herald got a chance to see an upcoming episode set in Scotland:

The episode, previewed at a screening in Glasgow yesterday, is scary. Dark, sinister, malevolent and scary. It's as if Russell T Davies, the 6ft 4in Big Man of TV drama and executive producer of the show, has turned the dimmer switch down to make the second series of Who's comeback as black as possible. Thirty-five-year-olds might think it's too much, but five-year-olds will adore it.

A look forward

The Independent takes a look at what's coming up in Series 2.

The second series of Doctor Who, starting on BBC1 on Easter Saturday, takes the time lord to places he has never been. For the first time, the Doctor, played by David Tennant, falls in love and ponders God's existence.

Looking forward to Series 2...

Over on Blogcritics, Matthew Milam has expressed his opinions about the new season, although it'll take someone with more intelligence than I to figure out exactly what those opinions are:

When Tennant took over the role from Christopher Eccelston (who did the Doctor for Series 1) in "The Parting Of The Ways," it finally seemed like an actor had stepped in with enthusiasm and interest in the character. As luck would have it, we got our chance a few months before Christmas with the mini-segment "Children-In-Need" special. Now with this excitement and joy with a new Doctor at hand, we had to deal with whether the result was worth it. For the CID special, I didn't feel it.
