David Tennant making a splash in NZ

NZ Herald's got the story:

His television roles have included show-stealing roles in both the BBC musical drama Blackpool and the title role of its Casanova. And he also snaffled a part as Voldemort's henchman in the latest Harry Potter film. But now has come the role that has tipped him from esteemed actor to stardom - the new Doctor Who.

Sydney Morning Herald

A nice article at the 'SMH':

"You have an expectation to be different though there are certain Doctor-ish traits to do with his morality, his humanitarianism, his egalitarianism, his anarchy that are always there," Tennant says. "Inevitably, I will be interpreting it a different way because I'm different to Tom Baker and William Hartnell and whoever else."

Wow. Just wow.

Cosgrove Hall has been working with the BBC’s interactive drama and entertainment department to recreate the two episodes, for which only soundtracks survived. They used black and white animation based on original actors and set designs.

Peter Kay Talks Who

This is Lancashire talks with Peter Kay:

...even he admits that running flat out through the streets of Cardiff in a disgusting looking rubber monster suit again and again and again for this week's episode of Doctor Who is probably at the top of the list marked "bizarre".

Ratings boost for the SCI-FI channel

Great news for Doctor Who fans in the States, at least. Even though ratings aren't that hot in the UK for series 2, there are two reports, one at iFMagazine, and the other at the futon critic both thrilled with the incredible gains that the SCI-FI channel has been seeing.

UGO.com: "The Parting of the Ways"

Kyle Braun considers the season past and talks about The Parting of the Ways:

The season finale ([of] Season 27), "The Parting of the Ways," brings to a close a fantastic cliffhanger put in place at the end of the penultimate episode.

Blogcritics: "The Age of Steel"

Daniel Woolstencroft reviews The Age of Steel, and is less than thrilled:

"The Age Of Steel" is the worst episode of the new season so far, and is potentially the worst episode since Doctor Who returned.

DVD Times: "Genesis of the Daleks"

An in-depth look at the Daleks' origin story:

We begin on the mist-shrouded planet of Skaro – actually one of the many quarries that performed yeoman service to British small-screen SF, but disbelief is willingly suspended. The opening scene, with gas-masked soldiers gunned down in slow motion, sets the scene for a not humourless but still unusually dark six-parter.

Blogcritics: "The Impossible Planet"

Matthew Milam reviews The Impossible Planet:

All of this danger should have made for a great start to this two-parter from Matt Jones, but instead gets weighed down by erratic tones in the script and too many supporting characters.

TV Squad: Bad Wolf

Richard Keller over at TV Squad reviews Bad Wolf:

This is where our story begins as The Doctor (Christopher Eccleston), Rose (Billie Piper) and Captain Jack (John Barrowman) get split up into three different game shows. Rose gets stuck on an episode of The Weakest Link where the loser gets disintigrated; Jack lands on an episode of What Not to Wear featuring two androids (who look a bit like large Lego people with breasts) who want to put a duck head on the good Captain and attach his legs onto his chest ; and The Doctor makes it into the Big Brother house (one of sixty on the Game Station) where those evicted get turned into a fine powder.
